A Family Business for over 30 Years

Vipilodge is owned by the Vollmer family. Arthur (*March 9, 1930 – December 26, 2012) was the Vipilodge’s technician, log cabin builder, handyman, entertainer, and gifted storyteller (his sense of humor was irresistible). His wife, Maria Vollmer, is responsible for the accommodation and accounting. Son Ingo takes care of all diving and outdoor activities, organizes excursions, and is responsible for the management of the lodge.

My whole life was planned – every month, the whole year. That’s the way it has to be when you run a business and do business. I also planned my private life. Maria – my wife – was always involved in my work (and my company) as well. We worked and planned everything together. When I first came to Nova Scotia, Canada in 1981, I was already planning to change my life. At that time I said: “Canada, this is my country, this is where I want to live.”

It took seven years for me to implement my plan. We sold everything in Germany and built a vacation paradise (VIPILODGE) in southern Cape Breton Island. I designed and built a resort that offers our guests plenty of peace, comfort and a private atmosphere.

Life here – on a peninsula – is the ideal example of isolation from the hectic world around us. The log cabins I built are designed for two people who live without television and internet. You can enjoy the sounds of nature, the leaves in the wind, the chirping of birds or the absolute silence of the night.

Slow Down Living – that’s what we do here!
